Spell to Communicate (S2C)
Spitskop Special Needs School is proud to offer Spelling to Communicate (S2C) therapy sessions, a revolutionary method that empowers individuals with communication challenges to express themselves.
What is S2C?
Spelling to Communicate empowers non-speakers to overcome communication barriers posed by traditional oral communication by pointing to letters on the board as alternative means of communication. This innovative method promotes synchrony between cognitive and motor systems. Through repeated practice, new neural pathways become myelinated. By teaching motor skills necessary to point to a letterboard positioned in front of them, non-speakers improve motor planning and control, enabling them to communicate their thoughts and ideas quickly and accurately.
Our Approach Recognizing the potential of S2C to transform lives, we have invested in training two of our staff members to become qualified Spelling to Communicate Practitioners. As a result, Spitskop Special Needs School is currently the only center in the Limpopo Province providing S2C therapy sessions.
Key Aspects of S2C:
Letter Boards: A board with letters, numbers, and symbols for spellers to point to. Facilitation: Practitioners provide prompts and support to assist spellers. Communication: Spellers can express themselves through words, sentences, or even stories. Benefits of S2C:Improved Communication: Enables individuals to express their thoughts and ideas. Increased Independence: Promotes self-sufficiency and participation in society. Enhanced Quality of Life: Contributes to overall well-being and fulfilment. By offering S2C therapy sessions, Spitskop Special Needs School is committed to providing innovative and effective communication tools to empower individuals with communication challenges.
